Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA, have gained significant attention among fitness enthusiasts and athletes for their potential to boost athletic performance and aid in recovery. These essential fats are especially beneficial during periods of intense training, as the body’s demand for them increases. Research suggests that omega-3s can help minimize exercise-induced muscle damage and inflammation, promoting faster recovery after physical activity.

In 2010, EFSA scientists first raised significant concerns about the oxidation levels in omega-3 products. Oxidation is essentially a chemical breakdown of unsaturated fatty acids, producing free radicals and aldehydes. According to recent scientific findings, these aldehydes exhibit pro-inflammatory properties, which can counteract the beneficial effects of EPA and DHA. Preventing oxidation is therefore crucial to preserving the positive impact of omega-3 fatty acids. Average TOTOX value of the tested products was 36.5.

Fatty acids are essential components of fats and a balanced diet. They are categorized into trans fats, saturated fats, and unsaturated fats based on their chemical structure. Unsaturated fatty acids make up unsaturated fats.
While trans fats and saturated fats are harmful to health and should be avoided, unsaturated fatty acids are vital for normal body function. The two most important groups of unsaturated fatty acids are omega-6 and omega-3. Omega-6 is common in the diet, found in oils like sunflower, corn, soy, and pumpkin oil, and includes linoleic acid, which helps maintain normal cholesterol levels.
Omega-3 fatty acids are less common in the diet, making their importance more emphasized. They include alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). ALA is found in plant-based foods, and we typically get enough of it through diet, especially from plant oils.
Our ancestors consumed between 5,000 and 6,000 mg of omega-3 daily, while today's official recommendations range between 250 and 500 mg. The fact is that in countries where more than 1,000 mg of omega-3 is consumed daily, there is less incidence of disease and a longer lifespan. Studies that examine the therapeutic effects of omega-3 generally suggest doses between 2,000 and 3,000 mg daily for a therapeutic effect.
A high-quality omega-3 oil should have a low TOTOX (Total Oxidation) value, indicating low oxidation levels. Additionally, it should be labeled as containing oil in its natural triglyceride form (TG or rTG) for better absorption. The oil should also be purified and free from heavy metals, typically confirmed by third-party certifications.
When choosing omega-3, the form is important. To achieve higher concentrations of EPA and DHA, omega-3 oils are concentrated, which alters their form and significantly reduces bioavailability. For maximum absorption and effect, choose a highly concentrated oil in its natural triglyceride form (marked as TG or rTG).
The bioavailability of omega-3 oil is important because it determines how much of the omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) the body can actually absorb and use. Higher bioavailability means that a greater portion of the consumed omega-3 oil is absorbed into the bloodstream and reaches the tissues where it can have an effect. If bioavailability is low, even with higher doses, the body won't receive sufficient amounts of beneficial fatty acids, which can reduce therapeutic effects. Therefore, it's important to choose omega-3 oil that comes in a form ensuring high bioavailability, such as oil in triglyceride form (TG or rTG).
If omega-3 oils have a strong fishy smell and/or taste, it's a sign that the oils have oxidized. Commonly, this is referred to as the oil being rancid. The oxidation of omega oils is measured in TOTOX units. The lower the TOTOX value, the higher the quality of the oil, and the more positive effects it offers.
Although Omega 3 PREMIUM has highest absorption on the market, taking omega-3 oil with food, especially meals containing fat, can improve the absorption of omega-3 fatty acids in the body.
Liquid oil allows for more precise dosing and is often a better option for those who have trouble swallowing capsules.
Omega-3 oil can usually be taken with other supplements, but it’s important to consult a doctor.
At high doses (over 2 g per day), EPA and DHA can help reduce blood fat levels (triglycerides).
Experts recommend omega-3s for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. Numerous studies have confirmed the benefits of adequate DHA and EPA intake for the proper development of the fetal brain and retina. DHA plays a particularly important role, especially in the third trimester. Our Omega 3 is suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers as they contain optimal concentrations of DHA and EPA from the purest fish oil.
